Unconscious synaesthesia

Last night I seem to have noticed, very momentarily, whilst dreaming that some associations made in our waking life are identical to the ones made unconsciously while asleep. These mostly concern two items, seemingly 'intra-sensual' that are identified with each other. Not an incidental connection like a scent and a situation - in the mind while asleep, it seems, the couple of sense data are each other, for all waking consciousness knows: it won't even see a connection. Perhaps, like an unconscious synaesthesia.
